You don't have to clean every day, or spend an entire Saturday morning. All you have to do to start incorporating this routine into your life is to gradually incorporate small 5-minute routines dedicated to one specific thing, i.e. tidying up the inside of a chaotically messy drawer, washing the dishes in the sink, etc.
It is a system of quick routines that you can use on a daily basis, to get used to doing things little by little. This does not mean that you should never do a general cleaning, but it will not be necessary once a week because during the week you will have been tidying up and cleaning every little corner of the house.
For these small routines to work, it is essential to set certain days of the week, although some of these tasks will be daily, such as the 5 minutes to clean up spaces that are in very bad condition or very messy.
To do a general cleaning, you can find one or two days a month that work for you and that you know you have more time to do, for example a Friday afternoon or a Sunday afternoon.
It is a good idea to write down what you want to fix, tidy up or clean, marking the day you plan to do it, so you have a clear routine and don't waste time unnecessarily.
If you manage to carry out these routines you will feel very good, because you will be able to maintain a clean and spacious space, which will make you feel very comfortable and calm, inside your house.
Example of a monthly cleaning routine
- Clean the trash can
- Change the sponge and kitchen cloth
- Clean the refrigerator, inside and out
- Clean the inside of kitchen cabinets
- Leave notes on the fridge to organize monthly menus and shopping for the month
- Clean the windows, mirrors and doors (including the entrance door) inside and out.
- Clean and disinfect the toilet
- Vacuum
These are some examples of tasks that you can do just once a month, without stressing yourself out every week. You should write down everything you want to do, since each house is a world and has different needs. For example, there may be houses with a fireplace that need monthly cleaning to get rid of bad smoke smells and, above all, to ensure that it works as it should.
