How to wash winter clothes

Sometimes we are afraid of ruining winter clothes, thinking that some of them are very delicate. But the problem is not with the garment itself but with the washing process to which we subject it. One of the most important steps to keep a winter garment in perfect condition, without losing its essence, is to read the label carefully. But we are going to see each and every one of the tips that will help us to care for and wash all our winter clothes correctly, whatever their fabric.

  • Wash the labels carefully. This is essential, because it is there that we will find the instructions for washing this garment correctly and observe other issues such as whether we should avoid ironing, whether the water should be very hot or cold, etc.
  • Use fabric softeners: Many items of clothing are made from fabrics that tend to get very stiff, such as jeans or some coats. That's why it's important to have a professional fabric softener, which can help you make these types of clothing softer.
  • Don't put your clothes away until they are completely dry. If you put them away before then, you can cause mould to form on the clothes and the fabric to deteriorate prematurely. Also, if you put them away when they are not completely dry, they will form more wrinkles.
  • Don't waste time ironing; If your clothes are air dried and you pick them up when they are completely dry, there is no need to iron them. If you run your hands over them firmly, you can smooth out almost any wrinkles that may have formed.
  • Don't wear the same item of clothing for too many days in a row, so that it doesn't wear out too quickly and you don't have to wash it as often; if you wear the same sweater for 4 days in a row, the item starts to lose its original shape and the quality of the fabric wears out faster. If you've worn an item of clothing for one day and it's not dirty, you can put it away again to let it regain its original shape and wear it after a few days.
  • Be careful when washing woollen garments. If you decide not to wash them by hand, you can do so in the washing machine, always paying attention to the instructions on the label of the garment in question. You can use short programmes, at 30 degrees, without spinning...
  • Wash hats and scarves as well; these accessories need to be washed every two or three weeks because they are in direct contact with the street and we leave them in different places, where they accumulate dirt.

These are just some of the tips we are giving you today at Dermo, which can be very useful to give a long life to your winter clothes, so that they always look like new!
