It is the area that absorbs the most grease in the entire kitchen, by far compared to other appliances. Its function of absorbing the steam that is released when we cook, as well as the splashes of grease when we fry, are completely embedded in the hood.
All that grease, odours, stains and spots settle on the hood and then it becomes really difficult to remove the dirt completely. That is why we must act in time or have quick and efficient tricks at hand, so as not to have to end up seeing our hood completely covered in grease.
Tips for cleaning your kitchen hood
- The first thing you can do is use a professional degreaser and, using a scouring pad, you can remove the most encrusted grease from the hood, to eliminate the grease that has accumulated inside and is causing extraction problems and also noise in the hood.
- It is best to clean the filters frequently and remove them to thoroughly clean all the dirt that has accumulated, using an anti-grease soap and a scouring pad. However, if they are too dirty, you can put them in the dishwasher, as long as they are not made of metal.
- The next step is to use a damp sponge or a damp cloth with a little grease remover on the inside of the hood. If it is very dirty, you can use a little ammonia diluted in water and dry the remaining residue with the help of a microfibre cloth or use waterproof paper.
- To clean the outside of the extractor hood, you should place a medium or large pot with water and lemon juice and let it boil for 15 minutes, with the hood on. This will release the steam with the citrus and help the grease to come out easily.
- When you're done, unplug the hood and wipe away any remaining grease with kitchen paper. Disassemble the parts and clean them with soap or a little washing-up liquid.
- You can wash the grates with a brush to remove grease from all corners.
With these little tricks, your extractor hood will look brand new and will only need a little maintenance once a month, so that it does not accumulate all that grease and dirt that causes discomfort and can cause a malfunction.
