Tips for cleaning your baby's clothes

  • by

When a baby arrives home, we must keep in mind that he or she needs special care, such as the way we wash his or her clothes.

Their clothes have to be washed with more delicate detergents and softeners, especially to avoid causing allergic reactions when they come into contact with the baby's skin.

When doing laundry, it is advisable to separate clothes by colour and fabric. Also, pay attention to what is written on the labels and empty all pockets.

When we wash our baby's clothes, we also include everything we use that has direct contact with his skin, such as sheets, pillows, etc. All of this should be washed with special detergent and fabric softener for babies, to avoid any type of irritation.

Guidelines

  • During the first six months, laundry should be done separately from the rest of the clothes of the people living in the house, to avoid contact with extreme dirt or dangerous products that other clothes may contain.
  • It is best to wash woollen baby clothes by hand, but you can also use a very gentle program for delicate clothes in the washing machine, both options always with lukewarm to cold water.
  • Remove stubborn stains first by soaking them in neutral soap to clean the garment properly and leave no traces of dirt.
  • It is advisable to use a special neutral soap for delicate garments specifically for babies. After six months, other types of detergents and fabric softeners can be used.
  • Double rinse: If possible, it is advisable to double rinse the clothes after washing, to remove any detergent residue from the clothes.
  • Most baby clothes do not need ironing, but if we want to iron their clothes we should use a medium temperature, because the clothes we are ironing are made of delicate and more sensitive fabrics.

There are eco-friendly detergents and fabric softeners, free of toxins, that can be useful to you at this time of your life. It is advisable to use neutral soaps, free of toxins and made from natural products, always specifically indicated for washing baby clothes.
